Greetings:                                                                                            June 26, 2024

With the Fourth of July within a week away summer is here. And so far it has been an old fashioned summer with high temperatures and little rain. For the period May 25 thru June 25 the average temperature was 68.3 degrees. Normal for this period is 65.9 degrees.

For the period, precipitation was 1.7 inches while normal is 4.2 inches. In June so far, there were 5 days with temperatures above 90 degrees and 3 days above 85 degrees. Also, on 6/10 the high temperature was below 60degrees at 58.4 degrees.

With the hot and dry weather, the grass is not growing much. Consequently, we are spacing out the mowing and spot mowing as needed. The mowing crews are helping with pruning and mulching which we were behind on. Please let us know of any particulars concerning your lawn maintenance thru this period.

Gardening tip of the month: With the dry spell, it is good to water any newly planted grass or plants regularly. Watering will help them survive and grow and fill out better.

A good watering is best done in the mornings and should be enough water to soak the soil to 2 to 4 inches deep. After watering, it is best to let the soil dry out somewhat between watering. Most plants do not like to always be wet.
